    • NICEVILLE, Fla. -- James Ernest Brown, 82, son of James A. and Helen Alexis (Long) Brown, went to be with the Lord on Saturday.

      Jim "Buster" was born in Elnora on June 12, 1921, and lived in the local area until 1994, at which time he and Pauline moved to Niceville, Fla. During World War II, he was a survivor of the Bataan Death March and was a Japanese prisoner of war for three and a half years.

      Upon his return from the war, he owned and operated small farms outside of Elnora and Sandborn. He completed the machinist apprentice program at the (then) Naval Ammunition Depot, Crane. He was employed at Crane from 1956 through 1975 as a machinist, tool and gauge inspector and quality control specialist.

      He was a member of the Elnora Christian Church; the Elnora Masonic Lodge No. 616, F&AM; the Daviess County Hadi Shrine Club; the American Legion, and was a life member of the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor.

      Jim is survived by his wife, Pauline G. (Myers) Brown, Niceville, Fla.; two daughters, Vicki M. Wright, Alexandria, Va.; and Rebecca J. Moulden, Niceville, Fla.; one brother, Richard M. Brown, Madison; four sisters, Julia Beasley, Elnora, Beverly Schuckman, Westphalia, Sandra VanDevender, Bloomfield, and Mary Jo Brown, Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Gaven, Aaron and Ethan Wilson, Elnora, Denise Melendez and Anjanette Friesen, Niceville, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren, Jakob and Elijah Wilson and Brandt Wilson, Elnora, Codey, Jacob and Katelyn Friesen and Kayla and Hannah Melendez, Niceville, Fla.

      Mr. Brown will be remembered as a patriot who served and deeply loved his country and for his love for his wife of 58 years and his family.

      Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Elnora Christian Church, with Bro. Fred Whitaccre officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Elnora. Military graveside rites by the American Legion and V.F.W.

      Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home, Odon Chapel, with Masonic memorial services at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
